Cannon netting Brent geese

And that’s how to catch geese when they’re not in moult!

Professor Stuart Bearhop from the Centre for Ecology and Conservation uses cannon netting to catch light-bellied Brent Geese. Over the last 10 years over 3000 animals been marked and the database now comprises over 100000 resightings.

Please note that – though it looks dramatic – cannon netters are licensed, extremely well-trained and have the utmost regard for the safety of the birds they catch. Birds are ringed, some body measurements may be taken and then they are released.
