Opening remarks

I chase geese – and then write about it – for science! I’m a PhD researcher with the University of Exeter looking at the social structure of Canada goose flocks, the effects of disturbing these flocks and the parasites and bacteria that exist in these populations. We’ve just marked our geese with very handsome orange neck collars (in Gloucestershire, SW England) and they’re starting to disperse so it’s an exciting time.

I’ll be blogging about the project, and about science that I find interesting. If you happen to be in SW England and see one of our birds, then please let me know; I’ve included a picture of one of them, big AL.

One photogenic goose

The largest bird caught, big AL was collared in the Cotswold Water Park. (Photo credit – Gareth Harris)
